Abstract

Brassieres and the like are thermoplastically formed from fully synthetic materials by superimposing a layer of elastic stiffening made from a canvas of polyamide 6 (polycaprolactam) partially stretched filaments on a woven or knitted lace or fleece lining of polyamide 6 or polyacrylonitrile and an optional decorative layer of polyamide 6 lace or taffeta, stretching the layers in a frame, heating by infra-red radiation and immediately shaping them into the desired form on a cold press. Polyesters and poly-olefines may also be used for the lining. The individual layers may be treated with synthetic resins, swelling agents or fixing agents and may be joined together during moulding by welding or by using a synthetic resin adhesive. A brassiere formed thus may be incorporated in a swimsuit.
