990,586. Capacitors. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 5, 1962 [Jan. 9, 1961], No. 533/62. Drawings to Specification. Heading E1M. A solid electrolytic capacitor comprises an aluminium anode anodically formed with an oxide dielectric layer which is wetted with a solution or suspension of a salt of an oxygen containing acid pyrolytically convertible to a semi-conductive oxide layer, dried under reduced pressure at a temperature just below the prevailing boiling point of the wetting liquid, and heated to pyrolytically decompose the salt; the processes of formation, wetting, drying and pyrolysis being repeated at least once, after which leads are fitted and the capacitor is wax sealed into an aluminium tube. The anode may be etched or unetehed aluminium foil wound with a cathode foil and a glass fibre separator, or may be a body of aluminium powder compressed and sintered round a core, or a body of aluminium deposited on a rotated aluminium pin by Schoop spraying. The salt may be manganese nitrate pyrolytically yielding manganese dioxide, or salts of nickel or lead similarly yielding the oxides.
