Abstract

1,244,578. Electrolytic capacitors. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 26 March, 1970 [1 April, 1969], No. 14810/70. Heading H1M. In the manufacture of aluminium anode solid or liquid electrolytic capacitors, the process of post-forming to repair defects in the dielectric oxide layer, e.g. those resulting from winding, is carried out using a solution of an electrolyte in an organic solvent of boiling point below 100‹ C. before the capacitor is impregnated with the working electrolyte and encased. The postforming electrolyte may be a solution of citric acid, ammonium pentaborate and optionally phosphoric acid in ethanol, or ammonium acetate in ethanol. Other solvents are methanol and acetone. The organic solvent may contain water up to the proportion forming an azeotropic mixture.
