989,852. Moulding hollow articles. MOLDA-RAMA Inc. Feb. 13, 1962, No. 5436/62. Heading B5A. An apparatus for moulding hollow plastic products comprises a pair of complementary mould sections, a valve assembly for controlling the flow of molten plastic and compressed air to the mould sections, the valve assembly comprising a valve casing having a bore and a valve member movable in the bore between a first and a second position, the casing providing a flow passage extending from the bore towards the mould sections, the valve member having a passage aligned with the flow passage of the casing for delivering compressed air to the mould sections only when the valve is in the second position, the casing also providing an inlet opening for the flow of molten plastic into the bore and through the casing passage to the mould sections, the inlet opening communicating with the casing passage only when the valve is in the first position, and means for sequentially moving the valve member between the first and second positions. A series of solenoid valves, 52, 53, 88, 92, 99 in a pneumatic system are operated sequentially by a timer 102. Firstly the valves 52, 53 are opened to operate pistons in cylinders 31, 32 to close the mould halves 25, 26 movably supported on a platform 12 above a tank 13. Valve 88 then operates piston cylinder 84 to move the valve member 17 so that inlet 63 to the mould cavity is in direct communication with the opening 75 from the pump 18, until . the required quantity of plastic material has passed through the cavity. Valve member 17 then operates through valve 88 to cut off the supply of plastic, valve 92 opening to allow air to pass down the piston shaft 78 into mould cavity 62 through the piston head 72. After closing valve 92, valves 52, 53 then operate piston cylinders 31, 32 which retract the mould halves 25, 26, the moulded article being pushed off the table by a pusher plate 101 activated by a piston and cylinder through valve 99.
