Abstract

669,290. Electromagnets. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and HOLROYD, E. Feb. 22, 1950 [March 23, 1949], No. 7861/49. Class 35. [Also in Group V] A filled mould having separable parts is placed on an electromagnet 9 secured to a hydraulic piston-rod 3, and the rod is then raised to clamp the mould between the magnet 9 and another electromagnet 10 fixed to pillars 18. The current to the magnets is then switched on. One part of the mould sticks to magnet 9 and the other to magnet 10. The rod 3 is then lowered, tearing the two parts of the mould apart. When a transfer mould is to be opened in this way (the transfer mould comprising two halves and a plunger which fits into a pressure chamber in one half), first the two halves are separated as described above, whereby the sprue is broken, then the rod is raised to close the mould halves, the halves are secured together by U-shaped clamps which fit over lugs on the mould sides, and finally the rod is lowered, whereby the plunger is separated from the pressure chamber. If the article in the mould has accessible metal inserts, the article can be stripped from the mould by this method. The apparatus, including an oil-pressure-supply unit 6 and con-. trol valve 7, is mounted on a wheeled frame 19 having a towing-bar 26.
