989,432. Couplings; two-part couplings. NORTH WESTERN SPECIALITIES. Nov. 15, 1961 [Aug. 17, 1960], No. 28492/60. Heading H2E. A connector for connecting a branch coaxial cable B to a main cable comprises a cylindrical body 10 having a channel 11 in which the main cable is clamped by a boss 13 on a screw-on cap 12, a tapped hole 15 leading into the base of the channel 11 to receive a tubular end-part 16 of an assembly holding the branch cable B, the end-part 16 contacting the conductive sheath of the main cable and the branch core being insulated from the assembly and connected to the main core. The end-part 16 receives an insulating sleeve 19 surrounding a metal tube 20 which is connected at one end to an endwire of a resistor R, and at the other acts as a socket for the insertion of a plug pin 23 into which the branch core is soldered. Pin 23 is supported in a sleeve 17 which screws into the end-part 16 and to which the outer conductor of cable B is clamped by a cap 18 and collet 24. When making the connection to the main cable the end-part 16 may be used as a guide for drilling the entry-hole, and has a cutter cone 27 to make contact with the main cable outer conductor, the top end wire of the resistor R projecting through a clearance hole in said cone 27 to contact the main cable core.
