Abstract
988,949. Universal joints; linkwork. A. B. HULSE. Sept. 26, 1961 [Oct. 13, 1960], No. 34499/61. Headings F2K and F2U. A mechanism for transmitting rotary motion between non-parallel shafts comprises a pair of crank links each pivoted to a shaft of the drive and to a central link member. Driving, 29, and driven, 31, shafts as slotted at 36 to receive crank links 42, 44 secured to the shafts by pivot pins 38, 40. Each of the crank links is rotatably supported on opposite sides of a central link member 46 which is of substantially Z form. The two shafts are held in bearings 28, 30 forming part of a bracket member 18. The central portion 46a of the central link may be formed as a gear or other driving member to provide a second output drive. In a modification the central link is a straight bar having parallel bores forming bearings for the cylindrical ends of the crank links. In a second embodiment, the central link is H shape and the crank links extend in both directions to pivot within the vertical legs of the central link.
