827,748. Embossing machines. SCHROTER, F. Sept. 6, 1956 [Sept. 28, 1955], No. 27339/56. Class 100(2) An automatically-operated stamping and embossing machine has a stationary lower platen 1 and a movable driven upper platen 3 generally of U-shaped cross-section and thereby having two side cheeks 7, 8 which laterally overlap the lower platen 1 and in each of which are formed bearings for the connecting-rod pivots 9 of a pair of connecting rods 11 for the drive. The lower ends of the connecting rods 11 engage eccentric pins 12 at each end of shafts 13 which are connected by spur gears 17, 18, the shaft carrying the gear 18 being driven, thereby imparting a reciprocating motion to the upper platen. The upper platen is continuously biased upwards by springs 16 acting on the lower edges of the side cheeks 7, 8. Openings 14 in the side cheeks 7, 8 allow lateral access to the embossing tool 4. The lower part of the machine frame 22 may be constructed as a gear casing which can be filled with lubricant. The workpieces are conveyed through the machine by a gripper chain 24.
