988,779. Gas mantles. AUERGESELLSCHAFT G.m.b.H. Jan. 24, 1962 [Jan. 24, 1961], No. 2717/62. Heading F4T. A method of manufacturing a gas mantle for use with a gas rich in methane comprises impregnating with a solution containing a thorium or cerium salt, a knitted fabric having a mesh width of 0.85 to 0.95 mm. and produced from a fibre of from 120 to 180 denier using 120 to 180 needles and thereafter subjecting the impregnated fabric to ignition, forming and hardening. The mesh length of the knitted fabric is 5 to 7 mm.
