988,637. Collapsible gates. J. H. TAYLOR. Dec. 6, 1963 [Dec. 8, 1962], No. 46399/62. Headings E1J and E2A. A "weld mesh" or expanded metal semirigid gate 10 liable to sag or easily distort is tensioned to resist such sagging or distortion by a tubular member 24 pivoted on the post T by bent pins 23 and carrying two or more vertically disposed hooks 25 which hook over the free end of the gate and a handle 26 secured to the member 24 for use in turning this latter to tension the gate and thereafter to be hooked at its end 27 to the gate to secure the member 24 and its hooks 2 in the tensioning position. Another device for tensioning and holding the gate so tensioned comprises a lever and hook for tensioning and locking in the tensioning position on the over centre principle. In another embodiment the fastening and tensioning device comprises a lever pivoted intermediately on the free end bar of the gate with one end hooked into a loop on the post. Two or more vertically disposed devices may be linked together to be operated simultaneously by a single handle.
