Abstract

988,607. Knitting-machines. HOSIERY EQUIPMENT Ltd. Oct. 24, 1963 [Oct. 29, 1962; April 25, 1963],Nos. 40830/62 and 16317/63. Heading D1C. Tubular knitted fabrics are produced in succession on a circular knitting machine and are connected to one another by a joining thread which is weaker than the yarn used for forming the articles and the articles are thereafter separated from one another by a mechanical pull applied at appropriate intervals to rupture the joining thread. Clamping bars 66, 67 (Fig. 3) are brought together by a rack and pinion mechanism which is moved by the pinion 63 to bring the jaws together. The clamping bars are arranged in the arm 29 (Fig. 1) immediately above the take-up rollers 17. When the clamping bars are closed rollers 35, 36 (not shown) which are located inside the casing 27 (Fig. 1) give the previous article a wharp pull which breaks the joining thread. The rollers 35, 36 continue to rotate and pull the article into a funnel 31 where it is taken away by suction through the tube 32. A belt shipper 84 (not shown) moves the driving belt from a fast to loose pulley to disconnect the drive under the action of the operator or an automatic stop motion. A centrifugal switch 117 (Fig. 1) is provided to stop the motor if an unnecessarily large pull has to be applied to the pulling rollers 35, 36.
