Abstract

988,590. Railway vehicle undercarriages; locomotive driving gear. KRAUSS-MAFFEI A.G. Jan. 5, 1962, No. 539/62. Headings B7H and B7L. The main frame 4, Figs. 1 and 2, of a diesel locomotive has at each end a downwardly directed frame extension 1, 2, 3 receivable within a central aperture in an associated bogie 13, the frame extension being in the form of a tunnel of approximately rectangular crosssection to permit passage therethrough of articulated transmission shafts 6, 8, and comprised of a part 1 fixed to the frame 4 and parts 2, 3 detachably secured under the ends of the tunnel. Each end of the tunnel has an aperture 15 formed by a flange 14 and bottom side flanges 16 provided with further flanges 17. Each part 2 or 3 comprises a plate 19 having thereon a flange 18 for abutting the flanges 16, 17 and bolted to the flange 16 and 17 by bolts 26. Transverse movement, of the flange 18 relative to the tunnel is prevented by bars 27 on the flange 18 engaging the flanges 16, Fig. 2. Each flange 18 carries a pressure surface 24 co-operating with a pressure surface 23 on the bogie 13, the surfaces having known steel coatings 25. Secured to each plate 19 is a mounting 21 for a transversely extending link 22 of a known pivot-less bogie guiding system. The frame 4, is formed of longitudinal plates 9 and longitudinal tubes 11 connected by transverse plates 10, and the frame is provided with a flow plate 12. In the embodiment shown each bogie has three axles driven from shafts 6, 7, 8 from an intermediate gear 29 carried by the frame 4 and connected at 30 to a main driving shaft 5. When it is desired to remove the main frame 4 from the bogie it is only necessary to remove the bolts 26 and the connections between the shafts 6, 7 and the gear 29. If the gear 29 is carried by the bogie frame then the frame 4 may be lifted by removing the bolts 26 and the connection at 30.
