Abstract

Yarn is crimped by passing it over a heating element e.g. a curved plate or tube, applying a false-twist which is set before untwisting and interposing an adjustable partial check or arrest of the twist e.g. by passing the yarn over three heated or cooled bars (one of which is displaceable) to which wetting agent and/or yarn lubricant may be applied. The total false-twist is higher than the maximum twist normally regarded as compatible with the p temperature of the heat treatment but the false-twist between the heater and the twist check does not exceed such maximum.
