979,872. Finishing yarns. MOULINAGE ET RETORDERIE DE CHAVANOZ. April 10, 1963 [April 19, 1962], No. 14452/63.. Heading D1F. In a crimping process, yarn is false-twisted, the twist is heat-set before untwisting occurs and a wetting agent e.g. hot or cold water containing a wetting and/or sizing agent, or oil, is applied e.g. by contact with a roller partly immersed in the agent or with a wick or by capillary action, between the heating and false-twisting apparatuses. As shown, yarn 1 unwound from a bobbin 2 is lightly tensioned by a device 3 and taken up by roller 4 whence it passes through a tubular heater 5 (providing a curved heating surface) over a wetting roller 6, through a twist-tube 7, it is taken up by a roller 8 rotating at a lower peripheral speed than roller 4, and spooled at 9. A second thermal treatment (not shown) may be effected between roller 8 and reciprocating guide 11. The wetting step is stated to enhance the "decrimping stretch", the "snap-back" and the dyeing affinity of the bulked yarn product.
