Abstract

988,299. Storing liquefied gases. CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd. Oct. 9, 1963 [May 24, 1963], No. 39852/63. Addition to 954,751. Heading F4P. A ground reservoir in which is stored liquid natural gas at substantially atmospheric pressure has a metal roof sheet 30, Fig. 1, lined with heat insulating layer, e.g. fibre glass, 41 and connected at its periphery with the side or sides 70, Fig. 5, of the reservoir and is also reimbursed by a rigid framework of rafters 34, girders 32 and pirlins 36, Fig. 2, which is connected by vertical rods 54, 56, Fig. 3, to a superstructure 10 supported at its ends on piers 24. The superstructure comprises beams 14, 16 connected by cross-bars 18 and hanger rods 54, 56 one connected to hardwood blocks 44 which serve to reduce heat conduction to the roof sheet 30. The side wall 70 is of pre-stressed concrete and is lined with a plate 79 which is connected by a flexible seal plate 78 to the periphery of the roof plate 30. Liquid inlet and outlet ducts 86, 84 and a vent duct 90 traverse the central area of roof plate 30 and freeze pipes 97 are embedded in the surrounding earth 94.
