Abstract
988,284. Centrifugal contacting reactors. POLYSIUS G.m.b.H. Feb. 8, 1962, No. 4928/62. Heading B1F. [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for performing chemical reactions between media of different specific weights, at least one of which is a fluid, comprises, as shown in Fig. 1, a cylindrical chamber 4 the diameter of which is greater than its length, a tangential inlet 3 for a first medium which leaves the chamber through axial outlets at each end thereof, means for introducing the second, heavier, medium into the chamber and outlet means 8 in the cylindrical walls of the chamber for the second medium. The first medium spirals inwardly and imparts a rotational movement to the second medium which is introduced through an inlet 14, Fig. 3, and spirals outwardly to the outlet 8. The axial dimensions of the chamber increase towards its axis as shown in Fig. 3 and the outlets 13 for the first medium are flared outwardly. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the chamber has parallel plane ends and the second medium is fed to a rotating distributer in the chamber by a screw hopper. The media may be immiscible liquids, or a fluid and a particulate solid or a liquid.
