Abstract

[Also in Division F1] Flue gases are conducted tangentially into an egg-shaped container 1 so that the gases follow a helical path 7 to the end 8 of the container and then return along an axial path 9 to the outlet 5. Further fluids such as air, water or steam may be added to the gases through an inlet 6 and the inside surface of the container may be covered with a substance having a catalytic or electrostatic action on the gases. The wall of the container may be double to form an electrical capacitor. The outlet 5 may form the tangential inlet of a second container; alternatively two containers in parallel may have their outlets connected to a third container.
