Abstract

988,219. Metal sheet feeds. WEYBRIDGE MACHINE TOOL CO. Ltd. Feb. 26, 1964 [Jan. 6, 1964], No. 550/64. Heading B3W. A sheet positioning mechanism comprises feeding means adapted initially to engage a sheet to be slit and feed it towards a slitting member, said feeding means being formed to allow the sheet angular movement in relation thereto, and aligning means which position the leading edge of the sheet before slitting of the sheet commences. The apparatus consists of two feed rollers 1, 2, disposed centrally of the width of the sheet, the upper roller only, or both rollers being crowned, and aligning means comprising a pair of arms 7, pivoted on a shaft 8 and each having a spring loaded pawl 9<SP>1</SP> projecting from its upper surface. The sheet is fed forward by the rollers 1, 2, to slitting discs 3 and if it strikes one pawl first, skews until it strikes the other pawl. As slitting commences the arms 7 rotate until the pawls slip beneath the sheet. The arms are returned by spring-loaded plungers 12 and positioned by a detent 14 engaging a notch in a plate 13 mounted on the shaft 8.
