A hinge device has a plate 1 attached to a window and two pins 6, 7 on this plate run in an arcuate channel 5 of a plate 2 which is attached to the window frame. Between the pins 6, 7 and sliding in the channel 5 is a brake block 8 having- a channel 9 cut in it to engage with the hook 11 of a spring loaded catch 10 which limit the arcuate movement of the brake block and so retain both pins in the channel 5 or allow pin 7 to leave the end of the channel and facilitate rotation of the window about pin 6.
