Abstract

A polymer is produced by contacting an olefine A which is an olefinically unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon having a slower polymerization rate than isobutene, with a Friedal-Crafts catalyst in the presence of not more than 20% by volume expressed as a percentage of olefine A of isobutene. Olefine A is preferably 4 - methyl - pentene - 1. The polymerization is preferably carried out in an inert diluent such as hydrocarbons and halogenated hydrocarbons, e.g. ethyl chloride and the preferred catalyst is aluminium chloride.
