Abstract

987,157. Invalid chairs; hand driving mechanisms. B. T. GOOD. Feb. 24, 1964 [March 20, 1963], No. 11147/63. Headings B7B and B7E. An invalid chair has its wheels 12, 13 wholly below the level of the seat 16 and at least part of the wheels 13 are disposed under the seat itself. The footrest 50 is slidable in guides 51 and is retracted by operation of the lever 53 via links 52. The seat 16 and backrest 17 is removable as a unit. The vehicle is propelled by means of an oscillating lever 23 movable between limit stops 24 attached to the frame 10. Pivoted to this lever 23 is a V-shaped tyreengaging pawl 29 actuated by the handle support 28 to which it is secured so that movement of the handle 34 will rock the pawl 29 to engage the wheel to enable it to be rotated.
