Abstract

986,918. Electromagnetic relays. CUTLERHAMMER Inc. May 29, 1963 [May 29, 1962], No. 21570/63. Heading H2B. An electromagnetic relay is attached to one part 10a of an enclosure and its operating characteristics are adjusted, the other part 10b is secured to the part 10a by welding and the heat so produced is allowed to dissipate, supporting studs 126 screwed into the base of the relay are unscrewed from the exterior of the enclosure until flanges 126b of the studs engage part 10b, and finally the enclosure is filled with an inert gas through an aperture in the part 10b which is sealed with a plug 136. The relay is secured to four brackets 114 on part 10a by four bolts 110 which extend between the brackets and tabs 80c on the base. A metal sleeve 112 on each bolt 110 is maintained under compression by a nut 124 and that part of the bolt between the bracket and the nut is maintained under tension. Each stud 126 is coated with a hardenable liquid sealing material before being screwed into the base. When the flanges 126b on the studs engage the part 10b a solder washer 130 is placed in the lower end 126c of each stud, a nut 132 is screwed on to the stud and the aperture around the stud is sealed by solder 134. The relay armature 74 is mounted on the centre limb 84 of an E-shaped core and is normally retained in in engagement with limb 90 which is a permanent magnet. Fixed and movable magnetic members shunt the permanent magnet. Adjustment of the movable member 96 alters the current setting. The armature actuates two sets of movable contact carriers 34, 56 on which are spring-mounted contact bridges 38, 58. Specification 794,110 and U.S.A. Specification 2,405,425 are referred to.
