986,917. Drafting-apparatus. SPINDELFABRIK SUSSEN, SCHURR, STAHLECKER & GRILL G.m.b.H. May 7, 1963 [May 11, 1962], No. 18049/63. Heading D1D. In drafting apparatus, in order that the loading- pressures may be adjusted when the roller-supporting arm and the locking-lever are in their operative positions, the locking-lever is in two or more parts, one of which constitutes the locking- lever proper, and at least one other forms a cover which is pivotable or slidable away from the adjusting means. The cover may be bolted to the locking part; or it may be hinged thereto and held by a catch; or it may be held by spring-clips over windows on the locking part, the clips being such as to allow the cover to be removed only when the locking lever is swung upwardly. As shown, the cover 43<SP>1</SP> lies above windows 48 and is pushed over the locking part 43, a snap-spring 46 being provided. In other forms, the cover is pivoted about a vertical axis, or is of plastics material retained by elastic detents engaging apertures on the locking part, or comprises a slide guided in projections &c. on the locking part. In using the arrangement for adjusting the loading pressures, the arm is lifted and the upper roll of which the pressure is to be adjusted is replaced by a measuring roll. The arm is returned and locked by depressing the locking lever; the cover is removed and the set screws are adjusted until the desired pressure is indicated by the measuring-roll. The arm is then lifted, the measuring roll replaced, and the arm returned and locked.
