Abstract
986,915. Rotary pumps. MICAFIL A.G. Feb. 21, 1963 [March 1, 1962], No. 7005/63. Heading F1F. [Also in Divisions G3 and H2] A D.C. motor GM drives a Roots pump RP and is energised from three-phase source RST through thyratrons Th associated with firing-angle control apparatus E. The armature current of the motor is limited by comparing the voltage-drop across series resistor R1 with a reference voltage, the resultant of this comparison being adapted to change the phase position of the firing impulses in the appropriate sense. Since the motor is shuntexcited, the pump does not exceed a desired speed under no-load conditions. The system provides automatic regulation of the driving torque applied to the pump when the intake pressure or difference of pressure between intake and exhaust is below a level at which the pump can safely be operated with full torque.
