Abstract

1,273,647. Control of D.C. motors. VYZKUMNY USTAV ZDRAVOTNICKE TECHNIKY. 26 Oct., 1970 [12 Nov., 1969], No. 50763/70. Heading H2J. [Also in Division G3] A thyristor TY1 and a transistor T1 are connected in series between A.C. source and a D.C. motor M, the thyristor passing current during a portion of a half-cycle of the A.C. supply which depends on the back EMF of the motor, thereby to stabilise the speed at a predetermined value, and the transistor being arranged to cut off the supply to the motor at a predetermined motor current, thereby to provide overload protection for the motor. A reference voltage for controlling the thyristor TY1 is provided by a zener diode ZD1, associated with capacitor C1 and resistors R1, R2. The back EMF of the motor opposes the voltage across the capacitor C1 to determine the firing-angle of the thyristor. When the armature current exceeds a predetermined value, the voltage-drop across resistor R6 is sufficient to render zener diodes ZD2-ZD4 conductive so that the transistor T1 becomes non-conductive. The motor may drive a dental drill.
