Abstract

986,721. Single side lacquered paper. J. W. RIDDING. (Licentia Patent-Verwaltungs G.m.b.H.). June 25, 1963, No. 25287/63. Heading B2E. A process for the manufacture of single-side lacquered paper, with improved penetration of the lacquer, is characterized by the feature that, immediately after the application of the lacquer, which consists essentially of epoxy resin or a polyester resin dissolved in toluene, xylene or cresol, the paper is drawn over a smooth heated metal surface with the unlacquered side of the paper in contact therewith and then passed through a drying chamber. The smooth heated metal surface may be in the form of an internally heated cylinder. As shown, paper web from supply roll 1 is led over guide roller 2 and lacquered in arrangement 3. Excessive lacquer is removed by rollers 4, and the lacquered web drawn over heated plate 5 prior to passage through drying arrangement 6. The lacquered paper may be made up into laminated paper tubes having low water-absorption.
