Abstract
986,709. Bearings. MORGANITE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. March 12, 1964 [March 12, 1963], No. 9745/63. Heading F2A. A bearing surface is formed from material containing non-sintered particles of nickel oxide and/or cobalt oxide. The bearing surface preferably contains at least 20% by weight of nickel oxide and/or cobalt oxide. The nickel oxide and/or cobalt oxide may be applied to a metal substrate, having a softening point below a 1000‹ C., by spreading the particles evenly over the substrate and then rolling the particles therein. Alternatively, powdered nickel oxide and/or cobalt oxide can be incorporated in an enamel, e.g. a frit. In an embodiment, nickel oxide is applied as a component of an enamel coating to the substrate. The frit is made in the usual way, by smelting a mixture of oxides prepared according to the following table at 1200‹ C. in a crucible. After several hours the resultant frit is poured slowly into water, where it is shattered into small fragments. The above frit forms the base for a coating slip made up as follows: The mixture is ground in a ball-mill for several hours and the resultant suspension is applied in one of the usual ways to the clean substrate. Spraying is preferred for substrates of sufficiently open design, but dipping is also effective. After drying, the work is fired for ten minutes at 900‹ C. and cooled.
