Abstract

Substantially spherical silica-bonded granules of pulverous solids are produced by stirring the solids (which are not powdery molecular sieve zeolites and do not cause aqueous silica sols to gel) with an aqueous silica sol to form a flowable suspension with a pH below 10, mixing the suspension with 0.05 to 0.2 parts by volume (per part of silica sol suspension) of a second suspension of finely divided magnesium oxide in water, and distributing the mixture in drop form in a liquid immiscible with water in a manner known per se until sol-gel conversion commences. Suitable solids are ferric oxide, zinc oxide, carbonates, copper oxychloride, aluminium phosphate, bleaching earth.ALSO:Substantially spherical silica-bonded granules of pulverous solids are produced by stirring the solids (which are not powdery molecular seive zeolites and do not cause aqueous silica sol to gel) with an aqueous silica sol to form a flowable suspension with a pH below 10, mixing the suspension with 0,05-0,2 parts by volume (per part of silica sol suspension) of a second suspension of finely divided magnesium oxide in water, and distributing the mixture in drop form in a liquid immiscible with water in a manner known per se until sol-gel conversion commences. Suitable solids are ferric oxide, zinc oxide, carbonates, copper oxychloride, aluminium phosphate, bleaching earth, ground ion exchange resins.
