Abstract

1309074 Grinding calcium carbonate; wet grinding ENGLISH CLAYS LOVERING POCHIN & CO 12 March 1970 [18 March 1969 23 Sept 1969] 14279/69 and 46824/69 Addition to 1123219 Heading B2A [Also in Division C1] Calcium carbonate minerals are comminuted by (a) forming an aqueous suspension containing at least 25% by weight of the mineral, (b) grinding the suspension with a particulate grinding aid e.g. Ottawa sand or silica sand consisting of particles of 150Á to “inch in such a quantity that the volume occupied by the particulate grinding material is at least one half of the volume of the suspension for a sufficient time o dissipate at least 250 H.P. hours of energy per ton of the dry CaCO 3 preferably in the presence of a non-mucilaginous dispersing agent, e.g. a salt having an anion which is macromolecular having a molecular weight in the range 100-10,000 such as the Na, K, or NH 4 salt of polyacrylic or polymethacrylic acids.
