Abstract

Hydrogen chloride, generated during the process for caprolactam manufacture of the parent Specification, is recovered from the reaction zone and converted in a known manner to chlorosulphonic acid. The removal of the hydrogen chloride from the reaction zone may be assisted by the passage of an inert gas such as nitrogen and/or the use of reduced pressure. Any unreacted chlorosulphonic acid remaining in the caprolactam reaction mixture may be decomposed with water prior to the removal of hydrogen chloride. Specification 561,841 also is referred to.ALSO:Hydrogen chloride, generated during the process for caprolactam manufacture of the parent Specification is recovered from the reaction zone and converted in a known manner to chlorosulphonic acid.
