Abstract
986,149. Discharging shaft kilns. CAMERON & JONES Inc. March 1, 1962, No. 8018/62. Heading F4B. In a circular shaft kiln, the lower part is divided into a number of concentric annular throats by fixed, triangular section deflectors 28, 31, 33, discharge tables 26, 27 are arranged below the throats, and circular pushers 35, 36 driven with an eccentric rotary movement by the cyclic actuation of hydraulic rams 45 displace material from the tables 26, 27 to fall to the hopper bottom 25 of the kiln. The supporting bars 37 of the pusher rings 35, 36 may be guided by links 41, Fig. 5, passing through the spaces between the discharge tables 27, 26 and secured to the bars 37 and structural beams 24 of the furnace by universal joints. The deflectors 31 may support annular gas inlet rings 65 or there may be outlets for air or gas in the deflector bodies. In a modification, a circular shaft kiln of large diameter has four concentric annular throats. The outlet of the hopper bottom may be closed by a rotary valve or other air lock, in which case the passages for the actuating links 481 for the pusher rings 55, 56 are sealed by bellows 60, Fig. 10. The support bars 37<SP>1</SP> for the pushers may be supported from the furnace structure by crank arm assemblies 57, 58, 59.
