Abstract

The sailing of metallic heat exchange or heat transfer surfaces during the heating of crude benzoles or other light oils rich in aromatics and/or olefines derived from the coking, low temperature carbonization, gasification or cracking of solid or liquid fuels in the liquid phase, is inhibited by the addition of an oil-soluble salt of a sulphonic acid or a thiophosphoric acid ester. The preferred salts are those of the alkali metals, the alkaline earth metals, Zn, Al, Sn and ammonium and also salts of the acid or ester with basic organic nitrogen compounds such as alkylamines, alicyclic amines and pyridines. The additives should contain at least 6 hydrocarbon radicals and 2-200 gms. of additive per metric ton of oil is suitable.ALSO:The soiling of metallic heat exchange or heat transfer surfaces during the heating of crude benzoles or other light oils rich in aromatics and/or olefines derived from the coking, low temperature carbonization, gasification or cracking of solid or liquid fuels in the liquid phase, is inhibited by the addition of an oil soluble salt of a sulphonic acid or a thiophosphoric acid ester.
