The current in the coil 14 is maintained by diode 16, so prolonging the braking action, In the event of mains failure, a minimum voltage or current relay 11 responds to release the contactor 4, the motor being braked automatically. A capacitor 17 is effective during inching operation to add its stored energy to that which is recovered from the motor for energization of the brake coil.
