Abstract
985,097. Mixing proportionally flowing liquids and solids. KLOCKNER - HUMBOLDT - DEUTZ A.G. Sept. 6, 1961 [Sept. 7, 1960], No. 32005/61. Heading B1C. [Also in Division G3] In a system for automatically controlling the specific gravity of a pulp, a measuring section 2 is supplied through a pipe 1, shaped to an arc 1a to avoid sharp change in direction, from a mixing chamber 9 having an agitator 12. The measuring section has a cross-section, such that the velocity of flow of the pulp is greater than the sinking rate of the solid particles in the pulp. Two dip tubes 7, 8 penetrate into the measuring section and constant streams of compressed air are introduced so that the pressures established in the dip-tubes are each equal to the product of immersed depth and specific gravity of the pulp. The differential pressure, which is a measure of the specific gravity, is sensed by an amplifier W which controls, through a magnetic valve 10, the supply of water to the mixing chamber 9 so as to maintain the specific gravity of the pulp constant. The flow of pulp from the measuring section passes through a partition wall 3 into a distributer 4 supplying a plurality of outlet sockets 5 each provided with a slidevalve throttle member 6. The height of the pulp in the distributer, above the level of the partition wall, is a measure of the rate of flow of the pulp and is determined from the pressure in the dip tube 8 by an amplifier N which controls a valve through a regulating unit 11 and adjusts the admission of pulp to the mixing container 9 so as to maintain the rate of flow constant.
