984,813. Aircraft wing lamps. M. C. HARLEY. Dec. 12, 1963 [Dec. 18, 1962], No. 47817/62. Heading F4R. A landing lamp for mounting in the wing of an aircraft has a reflector which is circular when viewed in an axial direction, part of the circle being cut away along a chord. The cutaway portion may be closed by a plate of good thermal conductivity and preferably reflecting, e.g. an aluminium plate. In the form shown, the reflector 1 is parabolic and is away along a horizontal chord at about half the radius from the centre of the circle, the cutaway portion being closed by an aluminium plate 2 having ventilation apertures. A socket 4 for a lamp is mounted on the reflector. A diffusing screen 5, e.g. as in Specification 372,285 may be mounted on the front of the reflector adjacent the plate 2. The reflector is supported from a bracket 7 inside the aircraft wing by studs 8 carrying spring-urged nuts 9, projections 6 on the edge of the reflector being clamped between the nuts 9 and nuts 11. The aircraft wing has a transparent or translucent window 13 through which the light from the lamp is visible.
