Abstract
984, 398. Intruder alarms. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 20, 1963, No. 37078/63. Heading G4N. [Also in Division H4] An intruder detection system includes two beams of radiation propagated in opposite directions along a boundary to be protected, each end of the boundary being provided with a detector 3, 4 and a comparator 7 for comparing the relative times at which interruption of the beam is detected. As shown in Fig. 1, two light beams are transmitted coaxially by transmitters 1, 2 and the difference in received times of an interruption denotes the position of the intruder along the boundary. The comparator 7 is positioned symmetrically with respect to the detectors to equalize time delays. In a second embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown) only one transmitter is used, the other being replaced by a reflector. The comparator is also situated adjacent one detector, and a delay equalizer is inserted into the connection between this detector and the comparator. In a further embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown) two closely spaced beams are used instead of coaxial ones. Other forms of radiation such as infra-red, ultra violet, microwave, or sonic waves may be used. The signal may be pulsed or continuous.
