Abstract
1,058,165. Photo-electric tracking systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. (International Telephone & Telegraph Corporation). Feb. 28, 1964, No. 8374/64. Heading H4D. In a radiation detection system (e.g. for tracking aircraft or missiles) a rotating reticle (2, Fig. 4) is followed by a spectral filter (6). which may be a wedge of fused silica, cyclically traversed with a small movement across the radiation path to a cell (7) and adjusted to its mean position by a servo system controlled from the detected output of the cell. The ensuing reduction of background radiation is explained (Figs. 2, 3 and 6). In the first embodiment (Fig. 4) the output of an amplitude-modulation detector (10) is fed to a phase-sensitive detector (14) the reference signal input to which is from an oscillator (13) which also energizes means producing the " jitter " of the spectral filter (6). In another embodiment the servo system is jittered about its mean position (Fig. 5). The radiation may be infra-red, visible light, or ultra-violet.
