Abstract
Solid trioxane is irradiated with high energy ionizing radiation at below the threshold temperature for polymerization, then aged for a minimum period of four hours at 0 to below the threshold temperature and then heated to above the polymerization temperature to polymerize. The ageing may be carried out at 0 to 25 DEG C., and the radiation dosage may be 0.001 to 10 megarads (preferably 0.01 to 2 megarads), comprise high energy electrons and take place at -80 DEG to 25 DEG C. The polymerization may be at 30 DEG to 100 DEG C. (preferably 55 to 62%) and the impolymerized trioxane may be separated by evaporation or solvent extraction from the resulting polymer.
