Abstract

984,271. Washing machines. HOOVER Ltd. Aug. 9, 1961 [Aug.10, 1960], No. 27766/60. Heading D1A. [Also in Division H2] A switch 11 (see Division H2) for controlling the programme of a washing machine by the insertion of a key plate 10 in any one of a number of different orientations as disclosed in Specifications 946,666 and 969,960 is provided with releasable locking means to prevent complete withdrawal of the key plate whilst permitting limited inserting and withdrawing movement between "operative" and "off" positions. A spring-urged latch pin (Fig. 8, not shown) carried on a bracket 63 extends through an aperture in the switch casing and engages a slot in plate 10 allowing limited on-off movement of the plate but preventing complete withdrawal. A plunger 71 accessible from opening 52, which is normally closed by a door not shown, may be depressed to withdraw the latch pin and permit removal of plate 10. It is stated that the controller may be associated with a time switch arranged so that when the key plate is moved to the "off" position the timer will advance to a position in which liquid is emptied from the machine and will thereafter advance to a starting position in readiness for the next cycle.
