Abstract

984,197. Sewing machines. WOLSEY Ltd. Oct. 23, 1963 [Nov. 26,1962 No.44557/62. Heading D1G. Sewing apparatus comprises a support rotatable about a vertical axis adjacent a sewing machine, a plurality of equi-angularly spaced work holders carried by the support at radially equal distances from said axis, a clamp associated with each holder, means for holding said clamps adjacent said holders, and means for rotating the support, whereby articles held between the clamps and holders are presented in turn to the sewing, machine. A support 4, rotatable about a vertical axis on a column 3, carries radial arms 5 each of which ends in a holder 6 for the foot end of a circularly knitted stocking. A hinged clamp 7, associated with each holder, is spring-biased upwardly against a fixed stop 7a. Stockings loaded on the holders are carried by rotation of the support to the needle 2 of a sewing machine 1, the clamp being lowered or approaching the latter by co-operation with a fixed cam member 20, and being permitted to rise for releasing the sewn stockings. A pair of work guide plates 21 is provided in advance of the needle. The thread chain is drawn by a suction nozzle 23 into engagement with a heated element 22, the severed thread being conveyed via nozzle 23 to a receptacle 24. For rotating the support, a lever 10 is oscillated by an eccentric on the sewing machine, and is connected by an adjustable link 12 to the driving member 14 of a one way clutch 15, the latter being coupled to the support 4 by shafts 16,18 and gearing 17,19. The peripheral speed of the holders is adjusted to be equal to the feed rate of the sewing machine. The clamps may, alternatively, be held in the lowered position either by suction applied thereto, or by electromagnetic action.
