Abstract
984,080. Reinforcing rod spacers. W. STOBER. Feb. 12, 1964 [March 20, 1963; Oct. 17, 1963], No. 5832/64. Heading E1V. A spacer for reinforcing rods comprises a wheel-like body of resiliently flexible material the hub 1 of which can closely embrace a rod, the body being split along the median plane normal to its axis, over an area 2a, 2c, 1c, 1a extending from its rim 2 to its hub 1 and part of the way around the body in a circumferential direction, each of the two axially separated portions formed by the split being gapped to permit entry of the rod into the hub, the gaps 2a, 2b, 1b, 1a and 2d, 2c, 1c, 1d in the separated portions being respectively adjacent circumferentially opposite ends of the split area. The hub may have a notch 14 to accommodate ribbed or non-circular bars. In use the opposed parts defined by the split are splayed apart to embrace the rod which is forced obliquely into the hub 1. The spacer is then twisted to lie in a plane normal to the rod so that the separated parts spring back to their normal position.
