Abstract

983,951. Feeding webs. A. S. BAXTER. March 14, 1961 [Dec. 14, 1959], No. 42386/59. Heading B6B. A thin plastic film 11 is fed to a longitudinal slitting apparatus 16 by a driven roller 13 having a surface 14 composed of porous material connected to a vacuum source 15. The material may be sintered bearing material such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Oilite " or foamed plastic such as polyurethane. The film may be cut transversely instead of longitudinally. In this case, the film is held stationary beneath a reciprocating blade by a perforated plate connected to vacuum through a timed vacuum control valve.
