Abstract

983,774. Storing liquefied gases; portable stoves. WARREN PETROLEUM CORPORATION. June 13, 1963 [March 7, 1963], No. 23557/63. Headings F4P and F4W. [Also in Division B8] A container 2 for storing, e.g. liquefied petroleum gases, is surrounded by a substantially rigid, shock-absorbent material 72 having the outward form of a polyhedron and provided with an opening communicating between the outer wall of the container and the atmosphere. The shock-absorbent material 72 is composed of a foamed resin such as polyurethane foam or expanded polystyrene, a mineral or glass wool impregnated with a resin, cork, or cellulosic fibres, and is preferably preformed into two sections 74 and 76 which may be internally ribbed and which are secured together by either adhesive or by tapes of polyvinyl or polyethylene material. The container may be in the shape of a sphere, as shown, or alternatively an ellipsoid, spheroid, cylinder or polyhedron made of, e.g., steel, aluminium, or glass fibre reinforced epoxy resin or polyvinyl chloride. The container 2 is provided with fittings 36, 38 into which are threaded a valve 10 and a pressurerelieving device 12. The valve 10 is of wellknown construction and comprises a spring- urged poppet which is automatically opened by a device (Fig. 10, not shown) adapted to be latched to the valve whereby fluid may be introduced into the container or removed therefrom. The valve 10 is provided with a circumferential groove for the removable attachment of a spring steel handle (see Division B8). The pressure relieving means 12 may be combined with the valve 10 and comprises either a soft metal fuse plug or a spring-urged disc valve which respectively either ruptures or opens when the pressure in the container rises above a predetermined value. In Fig. 13 the container and its shock-absorbent casing 72 is positioned on a base 78 and has positioned thereon a burner unit 82, the entire assembly being held together by straps 84 and catches 86.
