Abstract
1412843 Carriage of liquified gas McDONNELL DOUGLAS CORP 26 March 1973 [3 April 1972] 14493/73 Heading B7A [Also in Division F4] A cryogenic storage vessel 12 has a supporting wall 16 to which is bonded fibre-reinforced plastics foam 22 to which a permeable liner 24 is adhesively bonded. The liner is porous to the extent of allowing cryogenic temperature fluids within the vessel to permeate the foam insulation resulting in a state of near equilibrium pressure across the liner, which consists of fabric impregnated with organic resins and bonded to the fibres within the foam. The liner has a controlled resin content so as to result in a liner tensile strength greater than the stress developed in the restrained liner when exposed to cryogenic temperature fluid. As shown the storage vessel is a cargo tank of ship 10 with a second layer of plastics foam 26 to which a second permeable liner 28 is bonded.
