Abstract
1438226 Cryogenic insulation MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 June 1974 [27 June 1973 17 Sept 1973] 28638/74 Heading F4P Insulation for cryogenic tanks or pipes comprises a plurality of foamed layers 5 impregnated with fibres 3 which are orientated so as to extend parallel to the surface 1 to be insulated, the direction of the fibres in planes parallel to the surface 1 being random. Method of forming insulation.-The fibres 3 are fed in an air stream on to the surface 1 so as to form a random web wherein all the fibres extend parallel to surface 1, the random web being maintained by the air pressure while the foamable liquid is sprayed on to the web. The foamable liquid is then foamed or allowed to foam. Foam material.-Polyurethane foam, polyisocyanurate foam, epoxy resin foam and pyranyl resin foam. Fibre material.-Organic fibres such as hemp or cotton, synthetic fibres such as rayon, acetate, polyethyleneterephthalate, polyethylenenaphthalate or hydrolysed ethylenevinylacetate copolymer, or inorganic fibres such as glass, stainless steel or aluminium.
