Abstract

983,565. Winding yarns. MASCHINENFABRIK SCHWEITZER A.G. May 7,1963 [May 9, 1962; June 1, 1962], No. 18078/63. Heading D1J. [Also in Division H2] A winding machine is provided with means for driving the package at a normal operating speed in a given direction at a reduced speed in this direction, and at a reduced speed in the reverse direction. Under normal winding conditions yarn 38 is wound on a package 32 but in the event of yarn breakage a feeler member 38a acts through control elements firstly to disconnect the drive to the package and to bring it to rest; the package is then driven in the reverse direction to allow thread and finding means to operate and the broken thread ends tied by knotting means (not shown); the package is then driven in the forward direction at reduced speed and if successful knotting is indicated by the sensing means 38a the package is again driven at full speed and normal winding resumed. If, on the other hand, knotting has not been successful reverse rotation of the package and tying of the broken ends is repeated. Drive to the package 32 is transmitted by belt 35 from a pulley 41 mounted on a shaft 39 of a clutch or plate coupling 34. A clutch disc 42 is mounted slidably but driving on the shaft 39 and in a raised position transmits drive from pulley 40 to the shaft 39 for normal rotation of the package; in a lowered position it is brought into contact with a stationary brake disc 43 which acts to arrest rotation of the shaft 39 and thus of the package 32. In an intermediate position the plate 42 is inactive and the shaft 39 may be rotated at the desired reduced forward or reverse speed by driving rollers 48, 49 mounted on a pivotally arranged plate 46. Rollers 48, 49 are brought into frictional contact with a pulley 44 in the desired sequence by means of a push rod 50 controlled by suitable control and timing means. In a modification (Fig. 6 not shown) the package is driven by means of an electronically speed-controlled motor and operation of a series of switches is used to control sequence of speeds and rotational directions of the motor as well as the braking of the wound package (see Division H2). In this embodiment the tying attempts are limited to a predetermined number and a warning signal is operated when this number is reached. Specification 913,752 is referred to.
