983,484. Machine tool details. ETABLISSEMENTS MERLIN & GERIN. Feb. 4, 1964 [Feb. 5, 1963], No. 4735/64. Headings B3B and B3T. A vertical lathe for machining hollow insulators, comprises a tool guided by a template for machining the outside of the insulator, and a second tool guided by a second template for machining the inside, the axial advance of the tools being synchronized. The insulator blank is carried on a plate 12, rotated by a motor 13, through a gear-box 15, and a belt drive 14. A tool 17 is carried by a holder 18, connected to a carriage 19, by connecting rods 20, 21, and the carriage is guided on uprights 25, 26, the weight being supported by a chain 29, which passes over pulleys 30, 31, and is connected to a motor reducer 33. The carriage is moved vertically by a hand wheel 28. A roller 23 on holder 18, co-operates with a template 24, which controls the outside profile to be cut. A second carriage 34 slidable on an upright 35, carries the second tool 37, for producing the bore, and the profile is controlled by a second template 38. The weight of carriage 34 is supported by counterweights 40, and the vertical movement of the carriage is provided by motor-reducer 33. Tool 37 moves in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the drawing, and arms 36 may be of unequal length to provide more accuracy. In a modification tool 37 is guided in a similar way to tool 17.
