Abstract

1465139 Turret lathes; lathe centres CHARLES CHURCHILL Ltd 2 Feb 1976 [6 Nov 1974] 48037/74 Headings B3T and B3B A turret lathe comprises a rotatable work supporting chuck 13, two independently operable tool turrets 25, 26 mounted on turret slides 23, 24 which in turn are supported on carriages 17, 19 respectively, the carriage 17 being displaceable along slideways 15 parallel to the axis A of the chuck 13 and the carriage 19 being displaceable on slideways 16 also parallel to the chuck axis A, the slideways being on opposite sides of the chuck axis. The upper carriage 17 also has transverse guideways 21 on which the turret slide is mounted so that the turret 25 can move both longitudinally and transversely with respect to the axis A in directions Z and X respectively. The turret slide 24 on the carriage 19 also supports a tail stock unit 28 which has a line centre 27 and which is displaceable relative to the turret slide 24 by an hydraulic ram 33 so that when required a workpiece mounted in the chuck 13 can be supported at its end remote from the chuck 13 by the centre 27. The carriages are operable by motor driven feed screws 18A and 20A respectively.
