Abstract
983,220. Clamp fastenings. HELIX (UNIVERSAL) CO. Ltd. June 13, 1963 [June 16, 1962], No. 23271/62. Heading E2B. A clamp for laboratory apparatus is adapted to be mounted on an upstanding support and has a relatively fixed jaw 2 and a movable jaw 5 which is controlled by a clamping screw 14, the jaws when the clamp is in position projecting laterally of the upstanding support and the relatively fixed clamping iaw being made of a non-metallic material and the movable clamping jaw being a metal blade secured at its inner end to an opposed face of the fixed jaw so as to be able to flex about the secured end under the control of the clamping screw. The metal blade is either resilient or influenced by a spring 12 acting between the blade and the fixed jaw. In the construction shown the jaw 2 is made of wood and each jaw has a cushioning pad 11 secured by adhesive. The jaw 5 is biased to its releasing position by leaf spring 12 and the screw 14 which moves it to the clamping position is of metal and screws into the metal bush 16 received in the wooden jaw 2. In a modification however the spring 12 can be omitted. The clamp is secured to a post by a metal sleeve 25 received in an aperture at one end of the jaw 2 the sleeve being contracted by a metal screw 24 which screws into a metal bush 22.
