Abstract

983,179. Valves. SHIPHAM & CO. Ltd. Nov. 5, 1963 [May 10, 1963], No. 18510/63. Heading F2V. A butterfly valve comprises a closure member 6 co-operating with a seat 5, a sealing ring 18 being provided in a recess of the closure member or seat. The closure is rotated by a spindle 8 oblique to the flow passage 4. The spindle is journalled in the housing and a clearance 16 allows movement of the closure along the pivotal axis. This movement may also be provided by the closure being loose on the spindle and connected to it by splines. The sealing ring 18 is an 0-ring. The sealing ring may also be formed as an integral part of the closure member when this is made of material such as P.V.C. The seating or closure may be treated with anti-corrosive material or the seat may be lined.
